The Meridian Hungarian School is the first Hungarian school in South East London, having grown organically from the 'Énekeljünk Együtt Magyarul' (Hungarian rhyme time) initiative. Our community have been singing with young Hungarian Londoners since 2019. During these rhyme time sessions we have been working to provide a solid foundation in Hungarian language and to support the children to become confident and capable citizens of both Hungary and the United Kingdom. The first generation of the 'Énekeljünk Együtt Magyarul' has since reached school age and the void of a local Hungarian school has become apparent. The Meridian Hungarian School was established in 2025 to bridge this gap.
The school provides education to two age groups.
- Cubs (for children 5-7 years old)
- Bears (for children 8-12 years old)
For children under age 5, the 'Énekeljünk Együtt Magyarul' kindergarten group will continue to provide monthly sessions (for more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/enekeljunkmagyarul).
While educating all age groups, we put the emphasis on connecting children with their Hungarian heritage and introducing them to the joy that authentic Hungarian culture and tranditions can add to their everyday life. In addition, the Cubs will focus on extending their vocabulary and developing their understanding of grammatical components and structures with the aim to gain confidance in communicating fluently in Hungarian. Meanwhile, the Bears will start working on their reading and writing skills, grow their understanding of Hungarian grammar, explore links between Hungarian and English, and learn basic skills to efficiently translate and step into the role of an interpreter.
